  • Significance for the region: The merger represents a significant milestone in the development of a cross-industry network for the promotion of artificial intelligence - from regional to international.

Karlsruhe, March 13, 2024: The KI-Allianz Baden-Württemberg is an initiative of the regions of Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Neckar-Alb, Freiburg, Northern Black Forest and Ostalbkreis. "We have set ourselves the goal of establishing an internationally visible and competitive AI ecosystem," states Ingo Hoffman, Managing Director of KI-Allianz eG. The pooling of core competencies and close cooperation within the network will make a significant contribution to the development and commercialization of artificial intelligence in the region and beyond.

Unique approach nationwide

"After three years of preparatory work, we are delighted to be able to fully launch this unique approach in Germany with our partners," says David Hermanns, CEO of KI-Allianz eG. "With the cooperative, we want to offer an alternative concept within the framework of a so-called PPP model, in which we do not want to leave the playing field to the monopolists in such an important key technology as artificial intelligence, but rather build a platform on an equal footing. So that AI solutions for people can be developed and applied here in a trustworthy manner and for the benefit of our society."

Kick-off: Great interest from business, research and education

At the kick-off event in Karlsruhe, the AI Alliance Baden-Württemberg and its goals were presented and initial insights into the alliance's projects that have already been launched were provided. "The AI Alliance creates a unique opportunity to raise cooperation between different regions to a higher level and to complement AI expertise within Baden-Württemberg. It gives companies in Karlsruhe the opportunity to realign themselves across industries in close cooperation with research and science and to integrate AI into a wide range of applications across sectors," said Andrea Scholz from the Karlsruhe Economic Development Agency at the launch event.

The event also served as a platform for creating synergies, exchanging knowledge and initiating new projects. With around 150 participants from business, research and education, the event was fully booked.

Support through funding in the millions

With a focus on networking stakeholders, promoting innovation and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, the alliance is a central building block for the digital transformation of the region. The initiative is supported by funding from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism amounting to around 11.5 million euros.
