Review of the Hannover Messe 2025

Successful trade fair appearance: KI-Allianz Baden-Württemberg takes positive stock of Hannover Messe 2025

Stuttgart, 29.04.2025 - Hannover Messe 2025 was a complete success for the KI-Allianz Baden-Württemberg. As part of the joint stand of Baden-Württemberg International (BW_i), the AI Alliance presented application-oriented AI solutions for business, science and public institutions from March 31 to April 4, 2025, and was able to make numerous valuable contacts. The focus was on the practical application of artificial intelligence and strategic networking within Baden-Württemberg's AI ecosystem.

The AI Alliance stand was a popular meeting point for numerous interested companies - especially SMEs. "Our participation at the Hannover Messe impressively demonstrated how great the interest in practical, economically viable AI applications is. We had many constructive discussions and received valuable impetus to focus our offers and services for companies and public institutions even more specifically," says Sandra Rohner, Managing Director of the Baden-Württemberg AI Alliance.

On the very first day of the fair, the AI Alliance welcomed high-ranking guests to its stand: "We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism for Baden-Württemberg, and her delegation. We were also visited by Science Minister Petra Olschowski and a high-ranking delegation from Canada - a valuable moment to further expand existing international contacts," says Community Manager and AI expert Jan Zipp from Tübingen.

AI data platform as a highlight

A particular highlight of the trade fair was the presentation of the AI data platform, which is being developed as a central project of the AI Alliance under the leadership of Dr.-Ing. Thomas Usländer, Fraunhofer IOSB, with eight partners from science, industry and the Baden-Württemberg administration. This platform facilitates access to quality-assured AI models and training data to enable companies to implement artificial intelligence in a targeted manner. "Many companies are faced with the challenge of finding the right AI solutions for them. The AI data platform creates transparency and lowers hurdles by making quality-assured solutions easy to find," explains Dr. Thomas Usländer, Fraunhofer IOSB. At the trade fair, it was demonstrated how the platform can be integrated into an AI ecosystem as an intelligent interface using a Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) system.

Strong network from Baden-Württemberg

The response to Baden-Württemberg's joint presentation was remarkable: around 200 Baden-Württemberg companies presented their innovations at the Hannover Messe. Over 25 of these companies were represented at THE LÄND pavilion alone.

"Baden-Württemberg is not only a location for innovation, but also a reliable partner for the practical application of AI technologies. Our network of research, business and politics is a key strength in making AI solutions marketable," emphasizes Michael Kaiser, CEO of the Baden-Württemberg AI Alliance and Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH.

AI as a locational advantage

In addition to practical demonstrations, the trade fair was also an important platform for dialog between business and politics. In numerous discussions with company and government representatives, it became clear that AI is playing an increasingly strategic role as a location factor. "Our task is not only to bring companies into contact with AI technologies, but also to demonstrate concrete application possibilities that create economic added value. The Hannover Messe has once again shown us that there is an enormous need for reliable guidance in the AI market," says Sandra Rohner. This makes it clear what potential AI offers for new value creation - even beyond classic automation issues.

In order to further strengthen our international partnerships and knowledge transfers and advance value-based AI applications, we were able to speak with representatives from Canada such as Durham College, Ontario Tech University, Trent University and Invest Durham as well as delegations from Macedonia, Indonesia, Ethiopia and the Netherlands. A strong sign that the AI Alliance is a strong partner far beyond the borders of Baden-Württemberg.

Conclusion and outlook

The Baden-Württemberg AI Alliance draws a consistently positive conclusion from Hannover Messe 2025. Numerous companies learned about the Alliance's offerings, held strategic discussions and initiated new collaborations. "The discussions at the trade fair showed that AI applications are a key factor for the competitiveness of companies. We look forward to incorporating this impetus into our work and continuing to shape change in Baden-Württemberg together with our partners as a supra-regional coordination office," summarizes Sandra Rohner.
