AI as a game changer: kick-off in the Ostalbkreis district

How can small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) benefit from artificial intelligence? This question was the focus of the kick-off event of the Baden-Württemberg AI Alliance in Ostalbkreis. On November 6, 2024, around 100 experts and decision-makers came together in the Neue Aula of Aalen University to discuss innovative approaches and present initial projects.

Three highlights from the event

How do high-quality AI applications succeed? Professor Martin Heckmann presented the project, which specializes in optimizing and ensuring data quality. The results flow directly into the supra-regional AI data platform of the AI Alliance - a central building block for regional success.

Under the leadership of Dr. Thomas Usländer from Fraunhofer IOSB, a platform is being created that makes data sets and pre-trained AI models accessible to SMEs. It simplifies the entry into AI applications and promotes cooperation between companies, research and administration.

The AI Challenge offers interactive workshops and concrete use cases for companies that want to take their first steps in the world of AI. The aim is to develop practical solutions and create long-term business models.

Early adopters wanted

Do you want to help shape artificial intelligence? Then why not contribute to the development of the AI data platform? Interested companies and institutions can become "early adopters":

  • Gain insights into the development phase of the platform
  • Introduce and test practical use cases
  • Exchange experiences with other participants

This pilot phase makes it possible to design the platform in line with demand and align it with practical requirements. Further information can be found here or directly from the Community Managers.

Impetus for Aalen, Schwäbisch Gmünd and the entire region

"Process optimization and new business models are essential for the future of our companies," emphasized District Administrator Dr. Joachim Bläse at the kick-off event. Practical examples, such as the implementation of AI by PVA TePla Analytical Systems GmbH, also showed how transformative technologies promote efficiency and growth. The Westhausen-based company is already using artificial intelligence in cooperation with Aalen University to simplify and automate processes. "Our mission is clear: we bring together the right people, resources and projects to make SMEs fit for the future," says Sandra Rohner, Managing Director of the AI Alliance.
