Information on the AI Challenge: Smart Eco-Events
Whether conferences, trade fairs, musicor sporting events - sustainability is increasingly becoming a decisive factor in event organization. How can the ecological footprint, especially CO₂ emissions, be minimized? Which criteria are essential when planning? And how can artificial intelligence be used specifically to develop sustainable solutions?
With the AI Challenge Smart Eco-Events, the AI Alliance Baden-Württemberg invites key stakeholders from the Karlsruhe region to a workshop. Here, requirements, data offerings and (AI-based) solution ideas are presented and jointly translated into concrete project ideas.
The workshop provides the impetus for downstream AI projects, promotes the formation of new networks and defines a roadmap for implementation - based on the methodology of AI engineering. The content structure is divided into four central topics: Mobility, Locality, Material Procurement and Event Platform.
Knowledge of artificial intelligence is not required for organizers.

FAQs
What is the AI Challenge?
The AI Challenge is a sub-project of the KI-Allianz Baden-Württemberg eG, which is intended to serve as an innovation network for AI, linking six regions in Baden-Württemberg.
The AI Challenge is specifically about systematically and sustainably introducing AI methods into the product and service development of industry and public authorities and establishing a lively AI scene in the regions. We want to work on specific use cases on site in workshops.
AI Challenge 2025 in the Karlsruhe region: Smart Eco-Events
The use of AI also promises enormous benefits in smart cities and smart regions - provided you take a systematic approach. Urban systems, buildings and infrastructures can be designed more efficiently, traffic and material flows optimized and energy consumption reduced. You also need all of this in combination for sustainable events such as congresses and major cultural and sporting events. Nevertheless, the needs of the organizers and visitors and economic aspects must be met.
Who is the AI Challenge suitable for?
- Municipalities and public authorities that want to improve the sustainability of events in all its facets and use innovative AI solutions to do so.
- Companies and start-ups that are already working on AI solutions for the planning, implementation and follow-up of events, with a particular focus on sustainability goals.
- Data providers: Organizations that have and can offer relevant data sets for planning and implementing events, e.g. data on local weather conditions for planning arrival and departure or for procuring materials.
- Technical managers and AI experts: People at management level (e.g. technical project managers or developers) who are responsible for the implementation of events or the provision of venues.
- Innovators: Participants who want to jointly develop regional solutions for sustainable events and are looking for a network that promotes innovation through interdisciplinary workshops and collaboration.
